The Lapeer Heritage Museum worked with the Lapeer County 50th Anniversary Vietnam War Commemorative Committee to honor those that served during the Vietnam War. This includes our men that didn’t return from that foreign land to the arms of their loved ones. We honored those men with a Wall of Remembrance at the museum. This included two pages of detailed information and pictures for each of these men mentioned here.
The museum welcomed home all of the Vietnam veterans with displays of items some of these veterans brought back with them. While this was an anniversary commemoration it was also the recognition these men didn’t receive when they originally returned from their duty in Vietnam. Sharing their memories and items is a very small way we can acknowledge the job they did in a very unpopular war. While they came home to some hostile welcoming parties we are letting them know that we are thanking them for their time spent there and recognize their military experiences.
